Faculty Position (Open Rank)
The Department of Chemistry invites applications for full-time tenure-track positions at the Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor levels in all major areas of chemistry including analytical, chemical biology, inorganic, materials, organic, physical, and theoretical. Candidates will be expected to establish a high-quality, externally funded research program and have a commitment to outstanding graduate and undergraduate teaching. Salary is negotiable. Applicants must have a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in hand or show clear evidence of completion by the time the appointment begins. They are expected to present evidence of excellence in research and teaching, and those applying at the Associate and Full Professor level should have demonstrated evidence of leadership in the field at the national and international level, respectively.

Program Coordinator- Extended Search
The Program Coordinator position involves the administration, communication, and development of all aspects of graduate and undergraduate student support. This essential staff position in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign manages creatively the needs of over 300 graduate students and 400 undergraduate majors.
The staff position assists graduate students in fully realizing their goals in our Ph.D. program. A particular focus is the recruitment and retention of underrepresented groups. Within the department it involves building support structures, including teacher-mentor programs, assisting with special lectures and workshops, and individual monitoring of students.
The Coordinator tracks graduate student progress and maintains a database containing the academic records of the graduate students within the department. Reports are generated as needed by Departmental and University of Illinois staff. Graduate students seek advice and information directly from the Coordinator who further serves as an intermediary between the students and both the Department and Graduate College.
This is a full-time, 12 month academic professional position. The Program Coordinator reports directly to the Head of the Department of Chemistry or his designee.
The ideal candidate has a Ph.D. or M.S. in Chemistry; however the minimum degree required is a bachelor's degree. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong desire to work innovatively with a diverse graduate and undergraduate population. Desired computer skills include knowledge of Windows OS, MS Word and Excel, and databases.
Start date: As soon as possible after closing date.
Salary: Commensurate with experience.

Instructional Technology Specialist
The Instructional Technology Specialist supports the Department of Chemistry at Urbana-Champaign in all areas of a growing instructional technology unit. The primary responsibilities of this position include critical instructional technology infrastructure support, working with faculty and graduate students in the use of course management systems and other instructional technologies, supporting the development of online interactive and multimedia instructional materials for chemistry courses, maintaining course websites and resolving user account issues. Supporting the use of the newly established Sabic Multimedia Studio will also be an important part of this position.
The ideal candidate will be reliable, thorough, an effective communicator, and able to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students. He/she should also be motivated to keep up with current trends in both technology and best practice.
This position requires experience working with course management systems, web design, and multimedia technologies. A background in instructional design with experience in Adobe Flash, AJAX or similar online interactive multimedia environments is highly desirable. A bachelor’s degree is required.
This position reports to the Director of Instructional Technology and is a 12-month, full-time academic professional appointment. Salary is commensurate with experience. Starting date is as soon as possible after the closing date.

Lecturers/Instructors
The Department of Chemistry at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is looking for lecturers and instructors to fill key teaching positions in our undergraduate program.
Lecturers and instructors are responsible for preparing and presenting lectures, writing and grading examinations, meeting with students outside of class time, monitoring teaching assistants, and assigning grades. Experience with curriculum development and current educational technologies would be an asset.
These positions require a degree in chemistry or a closely related field: Ph.D. for a lecturer or M.S. for an instructor. Applicants with a demonstrated track record or high quality college or university level teaching experience are favored. Excellent communication and organizational skills and a strong desire to create new and innovative course materials and experiments will enhance an application.
These positions are either 9 or 12 month full-time academic appointments (non-tenure track). Salary is competitive and based on experience. The actual start date is negotiable, beginning as early as August 16, 2010.
