Goals of the Women in Chemistry Program
Program Goals:
With support from the Office of the Provost, the Dean’s Office in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Department of Chemistry at the University of Illinois, the Women in Chemistry (WIC) Program has been established to address issues of recruitment, retention and advancement of women in the sciences. The mission of the Women in Chemistry (WIC) programs is to advocate for and foster the educational and professional success of women at all levels in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Illinois.
Some of the objectives of the Women in Chemistry Program are:
- Promoting professional development through seminars and workshops
- Supporting and coordinating efforts with the ACS East Central Illinois Women Chemists Committee
- Providing networking opportunities with other scientists and engineers at the university and with UIUC alumni
- Increasing efforts and monitoring progress in the areas of recruitment and retention
- Offering individual support through advising
- Highlighting resources and opportunities available on campus and nationally
