5/16/20
Hello everyone!
Final grades are posted! Keep in mind the following:
1) Everything has already been curved! There will be no further curving to the grades. The grades that are posted are final.
2) For the clicker points, remember that the four LOWEST scores were dropped regardless of what you had. In other words, the TOP 20 lectures were included along with those bonus points. For the weekly textbook homework points, the lowest score was dropped – the top ten classes are included.
3) Credit/No-Credit issues arising as a result of grades need to be handled through your advisor and/or your college office. I am unable to make any adjustments myself.
Finally, I want you all to know what an honor and privilege it has been to teach each and every one of you! Teaching this class is truly my joy! I sure hope you learned a lot of chemistry and even had some fun along the way, even though the semester ended up the way it did. Please keep in touch and do not be a stranger next semester!
Take care,
Elise McCarren

Hi everyone! Below is the information for when we go online after break.
To calculate your current grade, divide your current point total by the following point totals depending on how many labs your TA has graded:
- Three labs: 232 total points
- Four labs: 247 total points
- Five labs: 262 total points
-------------------------------------------------------------
Chem 101 Online Information
General Announcements
- Check this page frequently for updates.
- I will send out an announcement video at the beginning of the week describing what to expect. The syllabus with this information is still available on the website at https://chemistry.illinois.edu/clc/courses/chem-101-mccarren/syllabus-homework-schedule and has not changed.
Lectures:
- I already have pre-recorded videos of the content similar to each day’s lecture on the course website at https://chemistry.illinois.edu/clc/courses/chem-101-mccarren/textbook-homework-videos.
- I will be having Zoom question and answer sessions at the regular lecture times (11-11:50 am Tues/Thurs). The links to join these meetings will be located on the front page of the course website at: https://chemistry.illinois.edu/clc/courses/chem-101-mccarren. I’ll probably give a summary of what was in the video, work out some problems, and then open it up to general questions.
Discussions and Labs:
- TAs will be available on Zoom for discussions and labs at their regularly scheduled times. The links for those will be located on the front page of the course website at https://chemistry.illinois.edu/clc/courses/chem-101-mccarren.
- Blank discussion worksheets will be posted on the front page of the course website as well. I will post the key 1-2 days after the discussion was held.
Lon-Capa Homework
- All homework on Lon-Capa will be due as usual at the times as indicated in the syllabus.
Assignments
- All lab and textbook homework assignments will still be due as usual as indicated in the syllabus.
- We will use Compass for turning in and grading all written assignments. These include textbook homework, lab write ups, and the stoichiometry workshop which was intended to be held in person on March 26 during lecture time.
- To turn in assignments using Compass, please complete the assignment and take pictures of each of the pages using your phone. It is okay if you handwrite the assignment. From there, save the pages together as a pdf or as a word document. Upload the pdf or the word document to Compass.
I-clicker Points
- Attendance will not be taken in the Online Zoom lectures, nor will it be taken during labs and discussions. I-clicker points will be pro-rated for the duration of the semester assuming we continue online.
Office Hours
- I will have office hours at the usual scheduled times on Zoom.
- I will also have additional in person office hours for anyone still on campus.
- TAs will have Zoom office hours throughout the week.
Exams
- I will provide more information about exams in the coming days. I would like to continue to hold Exam 2 on Tuesday March 31 at 7 pm. I anticipate that the exams will be the same format - 15 multiple choice questions and two multi-part free response questions to be completed in 90 minutes.
