Professor John Hartwig of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Illinois was recently awarded the 2007 Raymond and Beverly Sackler Prize in the Physical Sciences - Chemistry.

Hartwig received the award in May during a one day symposium honoring the distin-guished laureates and as part of the Tel Aviv University Board of Governors' Annual Meeting. According to the award citation, John's selection was "for his seminal contri-butions to: Catalysis based on late-transition metal complexes, enabling widely applica-ble organic synthesis and deep mechanistic insight".
