Robert William Green Died on October 12, 2012, a week before his 80th birthday, after years of declining health and a hospitalization for pneumonia. Bob was born on October 20, 1932 in Los Angeles, California to Elizabeth and Lester Green. He showed exceptional talent in music from an early age and played many instruments, including trombone, tuba, baritone, piano, and recorder. He attended college at UCLA, where he ran track, played in the marching band, and majored in chemistry. He earned a Masters Degree in analytical chemistry with a mathematics minor from the University of Illinois in 1964 and a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Hawaii in 1969. At Duke University in Durham NC, 1969 - 1981, Bob did postdoctoral research in protein biochemistry and was promoted to Research Assistant Professor. Throughout his life, Bob maintained his strong interest in music and played with numerous musical groups. In 1983, he went back to school at North Carolina Central University and earned a Masters Degree in music with an emphasis in composition. He composed a string quartet. In addition to his interests in music and science, Bob was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, and especially hiking. Some of his happiest moments with his wife and children were spent on the trail. In 2004, Bob moved to San Rafael, California to live near his younger daughter. Bob is survived by his daughters Catherine Green Anthony and Linda Green; his grandchildren Connor, Luke, and Caroline Cunningham; his brother Richard Green; his nieces Donna Green and Cheryl Johnson; his nephew David Green; and his ex-wife Hannah Green Sutton.
