Marvin F. Reich (Ph.D. 1978) passed away March 16, 2013 after a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease. He was born December 1947 in New York, NY, and graduated with a B.S. in chemistry from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute in 1968. He earned an M.S. in chemistry from NYU in 1972. Some of his fondest memories were of his time at U of I, where he met lifelong and faithful friends, including his advisor, and graduated with a Ph.D. in organic chemistry in 1978. While there, he felt privileged to work under the tutelage of Dr. John Katzenellenbogen.

Dr. Reich worked until his retirement as a researcher in pharmaceutical chemistry at what began as LederleLaboratories. He would particularly reminisce about his work and relationship with anothermentor, Dr. J. Donald Albright.

Dr. Reich was an avid world traveller, eagerly anticipating month-long treks in exotic locales. He never failed to communicate the details of his adventures to his former U of I colleagues and family. He was an environmentalist and supported numerous and varied philanthropic causes.

He is survived by his sister, Beth, brother-in-law, Kip and beloved niece, Maya, and nephew, Michael, as well as his dear friends. He will be sorely missed.
