Dr. Harold L. Jackson, age 90, of Hockessin, DE passed away on September 24, 2013.

Dr. Jackson was born in 1923 in Wichita, KS. He worked for the E. I. DuPont de Nemours Company for 46 years retiring in 1995. Hal joined DuPont in 1949, as a research chemist at the DuPont Experimental Station in Wilmington. His research in polymer, fluorocarbon and solvent chemistries resulted in over 40 U.S. patents, many technical publications and co-author of one textbook of industrial chemistry. He also served one year as DuPont Visiting Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. After retirement as a senior research fellow, Hal worked eight years as consultant for DuPont and a number of other companies.

His elementary education was in the public schools of Wichita followed by attendance at Wichita State University from which he was awarded an AB degree (1943) and a MS degree (1946). He served two years in the U.S. Army. This included service in Italy with the 10th Mountain Division from which he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. After discharge from the Army in 1946, he attended the University of Illinois on scholarships and earned a PhD. in organic chemistry in 1949. Dr. Jackson was a member of a number of organizations including American Chemical Society, Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Xi, Alpha Chi Sigma, and Sons of the Ameircan Revolution. He was also a member of Red Clay Presbyterian Church in Wilmington serving as elder and deacon.

In 1952, he married Shirley Alvarado who passed away in March 1992. Both Hal and Shirley enjoyed travel and traveled extensively. Hal was able to visit each of the seven continents. He also enjoyed sports being an active participant in softball, bowling, golf and camping.
