E. Richard "Dick" Nightingale, Jr., passed away Nov. 30, 2013, in Overlook Medical Center, Summit, N.J. at age 87. Richard was born on Oct. 14, 1926, in Champaign, IL. As a youth, he was an Eagle Scout with a silver palm.

 

He received a B.S. and M.S. from the University of Illinois and earned a Ph.D. in analytical-physical chemistry at the University of Minnesota. Richard moved to New Jersey in 1960 to take a research position with Exxon. He started his own consulting firm in 1974. Richard had authored 35 professional articles and held 12 U.S. patents. He served actively at Central Presbyterian Church in Summit, N.J. and was a past chairman of the Overlook Medical Center Foundation. Dick enjoyed trap and skeet shooting, and was an avid fly-fisherman. He was an exclusive member of the "sixteen-twenty" club for Atlantic salmon fly-fishing. He authored the "Atlantic Salmon Chronicles," published in 2000. He was a member of Anglers Anonymous and Log Cabin Gun Club.
