Associate Professor of Chemistry Marty Burke was chosen as the 2013 Kavli Lecturer for the American Chemical Society National Meeting in Indianapolis and his speech, which highlighted the wide variety of potential uses of small molecules, was featured in U.S. News and World Report.

According to the UI News Bureau, " In research presented Monday at the American Chemical Society’s annual meeting, U. of I. chemistry professor Martin Burke described how scientists may one day be able to use small molecules to create new drugs and treat diseases. “Artificial limbs replace the function of an arm or leg that’s missing due to injury,” Burke says. “Some diseases occur because proteins in the body are missing or not working properly. Molecular prosthetics envisions treating those diseases with medicines that replace the functions of the missing proteins.”
