Professor Prashant Jain has been named a 2022 University Scholar, an award that recognizes faculty members for their excellence in teaching, scholarship and service.

Created in 1985, the University of Illinois System’s University Scholars program recognizes faculty excellence on the three University of Illinois campuses and provides a discretionary fund to each scholar for each of three years to enhance his or her academic career. The money may be used for travel, equipment, research assistants, books or other purposes.

Jain, a Professor of Chemistry and Alumni Research Scholar, joined the Illinois faculty in 2011. Research in the Jain Lab focuses on the understanding and control of light-matter interactions on the nanoscale and the use of confined light for artificial photosynthesis and imaging atomistic dynamics of complex solids and catalysts. He is affiliated with the Materials Research Lab, the Department of Physics, the Beckman Institute, and the Illinois Quantum Information Science and Technology Center.

Jain and other faculty members named University Scholars for 2022 will be honored in a ceremony later this fall.
