Sidney Edward Schnitz, M.D. died on April 15, 2013. Sidney was born December 2, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois. He was the son and only child of Benjamin and Winnie Schnitz. Sid attended elementary and high school in Chicago. He entered the United States Navy in 1944 and was honorably discharged as a Radar Technician in 1946. In 1949 he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Champaign, Illinois. He began his professional career at the University of Illinois Medical School in Chicago and graduated in 1953.

Dr. Schnitz interned at Cook County Hospital and did a residency in Pediatrics at Michael Reese Hospital. In 1956 he moved to Oklahoma City to begin the practice of pediatrics with Dr. Louis S. Frank. In 1958 he became Board certified in pediatrics and a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He taught medical students at the University of Oklahoma and was certified as a Clinical Associate Professor of the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Oklahoma. From 1970 to 1977 he served as Chief of Pediatrics at St. Anthony Hospital. Sidney always felt honored and privileged to have served as a physician and pediatrician. He always maintained there is nothing more rewarding than helping people and solving their medical problems. He was an ardent and early supporter of breast-feeding and the La Leche League. He gave many lectures regarding the physiology and attributes of breast-feeding.

Sidney retired in 1992 where he spent his time studying, reading and playing duplicate Bridge as a Life Master. Sid's true passion however, was being a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife Marky, daughter Margaret Ellen Schnitz, son William M. Schnitz, M.D and wife Amy and granddaughter Marisa Schnitz, son Robert V. Schnitz and wife Trisha and granddaughters Rebecca and Natalie Schnitz. He is also survived by step-children David Bailey and Diana Leonhardt and grandchildren Brandy, Chad, Regan, Bryan, Tyler, Hunter and Ethan, and his great grandchildren Dalton, Jeromy, and Brody.
