Dana Dlott elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences

Dana Dlott was recently made a Fellow of the AAAS. He was recognized for fundamental studies of vibrational energy in molecular solids and liquids using novel methods of laser spectroscopy having ultrahigh temporal and spatial resolution.

Professor Dlott joined the chemistry faculty in 1979 after completing his doctorate at Stanford University. He received his B. S. from Columbia University. Dr. Dlott has received numerous other awards, including a Charles E. Ives Award from the Society for Imaging Science and Technology, a Alfred P. Sloan Award, and he was made a fellow of both the Optical Society of America and the American Physical Society.Dr. Dlott joins an elite group of other UIUC chemistry faculty members to receive this honor. Professors Paul Kelter, Walter Klemperer, Nancy Makri, Jeffrey Moore, Jonathan Sweedler and Steven Zimmerman were previously made fellows in the AAAS.The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) is a non-profit organization founded in 1848, that promotes cooperation between scientists, defends scientific freedom, encourages scientific responsibility and supports scientific education for the betterment of all humanity. It is the world's largest general scientific society. The AAAS is also the publisher of the well-known scientific journal Science. This year, 376 members were elected fellows of the AAAS. Six were from the University of Illinois.
