Faculty Research Webinars

To give our faculty members the opportunity to share their innovative research with a wider audience, especially our Illinois Chemistry alumni and friends, the department regularly hosts a Faculty Webinar event. We hope these webinars allow the public to gain a better understanding of the scientific advances that our faculty and students are pursuing every day in our labs. We also hope you will gain a better personal connection with our faculty members and an appreciation for their work and passion for their science.

Below are recordings of previous Faculty Webinars hosted by the Department of Chemistry.

"Putting a New Spin on Oxygen Intermediates: Radical Reactivity in Unexpected Places"

Joaquín Rodríguez-López is a Professor of Chemistry and University Scholar (2024) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, with affiliation to the Illinois Materials Research Laboratory and the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology. Rodríguez-López has always been fascinated by the versatile reactivity of oxygenated species in solution: a simple battery can generate some of the strongest oxidizing species from just water and air. Understanding reactive oxygen species (ROS) is critical to many electrochemical technologies that are key to a renewable and sustainable future, including fuel cells, batteries, atmospheric gas capture systems, and water remediation methods.
