How does it feel to be an Illinois alum? It's exciting! I've had an amazing experience at Illinois. I feel that I've learned so much and have been able to connect with so many people. It'll be sad to leave all my friends and coworkers, but I am excited for the next chapter in my life, and I feel like my education at Illinois has prepared me for the next step in my academic career.
Activities and organizations: Undergraduate research in the Silverman Lab, Merit Teaching Assistant for Organic Chemistry 1 and 2 (CHEM 236 and 436)
Undergraduate research? I conducted research in Scott Silverman's lab for the past three years. I have been able to develop as a scientist and discover my passion for scientific research. Additionally, my research experience has enhanced my appreciation for collaboration and mentorship, especially in a lab environment.
Awards: ACS Division of Biochemistry and Chemical Biology Undergraduate Award, ACS Division of Organic Chemistry Undergraduate Award, Campus List of Teachers Ranked as Excellent (Spring 2024, Fall 2024), Dean’s List (Spring 2022, Fall 2022, Spring 2023, Fall 2023, Spring 2024, Fall 2024)
Favorite class? I think the introductory organic chemistry classes (CHEM 236 and 436) showed me how creative of a discipline chemistry can be, which I really liked.
Keys to your success? I have had excellent mentors, specifically my research advisor and lab mates that have taught me organizational and time management skills that have really been instrumental to my success.
What will you miss most? Firstly, I will miss all the wonderful people I have been able to connect with in Chemistry at Illinois, especially my friends and lab mates (which are not mutually exclusive groups). Secondly, I will miss Cafe Paradiso, which is arguably the best coffee shop on campus.
