George Coraor, Ph.D., 87, of Whitehall, PA, formerly of Allentown, PA, and Wilmington, DE, died Monday, October 24, 2011, at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, PA.

He was the husband of Martha G. (Wells) Coraor. The couple celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary last June 15th. Born in Jacksonville, Illinois, May 10, 1924, George was the son of the late George L. and Margaret M. (Fernandes) Coraor. He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. In 1947, George received his A.B. in Chemistry from Illinois College and earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Illinois in 1950. He did a Post Doctoral Study at MIT. A member of the American Chemical Society, Dr. Coraor was employed at DuPont, in Wilmington, Delaware, as a Research Chemist from 1951 until his retirement in 1985. Dr. Coraor was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Allentown; he was a volunteer for the Habitat for Humanity and a local food bank; he enjoyed working on genealogy, gardening and working on cars; he especially enjoyed his family.

In addition to his loving wife, Martha; sons, Robert J. Coraor, Ph.D. of Schnecksville, PA, Lee D. Coraor, Ph.D. and his wife, Joan, of State College, PA, John E. Coraor, Ph.D. and his wife, Hanna, of Huntington, NY; grandchildren, Steven, Jacob, Lynn, Nathan, Everett, Kaja, Juli and Aron; great-grandchildren, Jack, Liam and Sofia; predeceased by a grandson, Sean.
