Douglas Mitchell Recipient of the National Fresenius Award

Douglas Mitchell is the recipient of the 2016 National Fresenius Award. He was cited for his contributions toward the mechanistic understanding and reengineering of natural product biosynthesis.

The award is given to a chemist, biochemist or chemical engineer under 35 years of age for substantial, nationally recognized scientific contributions in chemical research. Only one award is made each year. The award will be presented at the Annual Award Ceremony at the Spring ACS meeting. Mitchell joins Willis Flygare, John Shapley, and Peter Wolynes as recipients from Illinois.
