Two graduate students in chemistry have been recognized with awards from the American Chemical Society for their leadership in mentoring and research safety.
Chang Jiang — Leadership in Mentoring

Chang Jiang is a PhD student in chemistry advised by Jefferson Chan. Jiang also received the Gary Schuster Mentoring Award this year. The ACS Leadership in Mentoring award highlights outstanding efforts and impact in research and safety mentoring of peers in their own research group as well as outside groups, undergraduate/high school researchers, and participants in short-term research programs.

Jack A. D'Amelio — Leadership in Promotion of Research Safety
Jack D'Amelio is a PhD student in chemistry and is advised by Prof. Daniel Shoemaker in materials science and engineering at Illinois. The Leadership in the Promotion of Research Safety award highlights outstanding efforts to promote safety in research environments. Activities may include exemplary service as a safety officer, participation in efforts to enhance safety culture and awareness, and leadership in promoting safety in areas outside of the wet laboratory.
