Private Housing Off Campus

The Housing Division maintains listings of privately owned apartments and houses in the community. This listing is maintained in accordance with the University’s established policy of nondiscrimination. It is reasonably current at all times and is available for examination in the Housing Information Office, 400 Clark Hall, any time between 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. We encourage you to view our listings on our web site or e-mail us. We provide information on the location of particular accommodations, number of rooms, price, whether the units are furnished, etc. It should be understood that the University does not certify these facilities, nor are they inspected by the Housing Division. Check with the Tenant Union before you sign a lease. Several banks in the community have similar listings, which they will mail to newcomers on request.

Students seeking private housing are urged to visit the campus as early as possible, as all reservations of this type must be made in person.


University Housing for Single Graduate Students

The graduate upper-division halls, Daniels Hall and Sherman Hall, offer welcoming, diverse communities, with great amenities and Daniels Hall convenient locations. These halls house undergraduates who are sophomores or above, as well as graduate and professional students. They are located within easy walking distance of the chemistry buildings, offer comfortable living accommodations for approximately 1,000 single student at reasonable cost. Single and double rooms, together with lounge facilities, laundry service rooms, and vending machines, provide all essential features for the day-to-day living needs of a graduate student. These halls also provide excellent opportunities for social and cultural activities. The rooms are completely furnished; residents must provide only bed linen and blankets.

Sherman Hall The graduate upper-division halls do not close over fall, winter, or spring breaks. In addition to academic year contracts, Daniels Hall also offers summer housing and 12-month contract options.

Students wishing more detailed information on this type of housing and/or an application form may write to the Housing Information Ashton Woods Office, 200 Clark Hall, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 1203 South 4th Street, Champaign, IL 61820. Applications should be completed and returned to this office as soon as possible. Assignments are made and leases issued to applicants until all available space has been assigned. Priority in assignment is determined by the date of the completed application form is received by the Housing Division.


University Housing for Married Students

The University owns and operates three apartment complexes; they are the student-staff Goodwin Green apartments, Goodwin-Green, located two blocks from Noyes Laboratory (efficiency and one-bedroom apartments), the Orchard Downs apartments located about a mile from Noyes Laboratory (one- and two-bedroom furnished or unfurnished apartments), and Ashton Woods located about 3 miles south of Noyes Lab (2-bedroom air-conditioned, furnished or unfurnished apartments).
