The department is pleased to announce the endowment of a new annual lectureship in materials chemistry. Dr. Jonathan L. Sessler, the Roland K. Pettit Professor of Chemistry at the University of Texas at Austin, has generously funded the Suslick-Sessler Lectureship in Materials Chemistry. Professor Sessler was born in Urbana in 1956, received his BS from the University of California, Berkeley, and his PhD from Stanford University. At Professor Sessler's suggestion, the inaugural lecturer will be Dr. James P. Collman, Daubert Professor Emeritus, Stanford University, who received his PhD here under the mentorship of Reynold C. Fuson in 1958. Dr. Collman was the PhD mentor of both Sessler and Suslick. The inaugural lecture will occur on April 18. (Martin Grueble)
